The goal of this project is to develop a mobile application for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets to provide pressure ulcer prevention and management training and performance support for Veterans and their caregivers and enhance and enable their communication with their medical professionals through embedded health reporting features, automatic dialing or emailing of medical professionals, and prevention tips and care plans. The mobile app shall include “just-in-time” training and performance support focused on Veterans and their caregiver as the audience, rather than focusing on medical professionals. It will include demonstrations with graphics, video, and audio to support tasks related to pressure ulcer prevention and management such as repositioning a Veteran, cleaning a wound, and recognizing an infection. In addition, the Contractor shall provide additional aids such as print aids and DVDs with the same resources as the mobile application for those Veterans that are located in rural areas with limited access to mobile and cellular networks, have no smartphones or mobile technology devices in their homes, or have never used this technology.
For the initial pilot the proposed Mobile App will be designed to work on iOS and Android related mobile devices only (excluding Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Noble Nook related products). Both smartphones and tablets will be supported. The Mobile App will have a universal design with customized views for both form factors. The targeted operating system versions, based on current market distribution and consumer trend away from older versions, is as follows:
For iOS: Versions 5.x, 6.0.x, 6.1.x, and 7.0
Support for forthcoming versions released during development will be assessed when they are released and based on the impact and availability of the new API during the development process. In addition, the exclusion of support for older versions with a trending utilization rate below 5% will be assessed throughout the earlier stages of the Mobile App development process. The exclusion of earlier versions of the operating system will generally simplify the coding requirements, allow for the overall implementation of more advanced functionality, and reduce the overall level of effort and risk.
For Android: Versions 2.3.3 -2.3.7, 4.0.3 -4.0.4, 4.1.x, 4.2.x
Support for forthcoming versions released during development will be assessed when they are released and based on the impact and availability of the new API during the development process.
