This project was a proof of concept (based on Mocha Server v3.0 code) which modified the code to utilize FDB Cloud Connector to access FBD data stored in Amazon Web Cloud (AWC) for its source of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) drug information instead of FDB MedKnowledge Framework data loaded on the MOCHA regional servers within the VA network. This proof of concept serves to ensure MOCHA Server can access FDB Cloud using the FDB Cloud Connector. This effort was limited to accessing the FDB Cloud from Development and SQA servers, and will not be production ready.
By switching the calls made to the Cache database connecting to MOCHA Regional Servers hosting FDB MedKnowledge Framework to the FDB Cloud Connector to access FDB data hosted by AWC, this will also include upgrading from the FDB MedKnowledge Framework 3.3 to the MedKnowledge 4.0, as the FDB Cloud utilizes MedKnowledge 4.0.
Medication Order Check Healthcare Application (MOCHA) Server is a Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) application, used by the MOCHA Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) Pharmacy Application to perform enhanced order checks using First Databank’s (FDB) MedKnowledge Framework. FDB MedKnowledge Framework is a drug data product that provides the latest identification and safety information on medications, along with the latest algorithms used to perform order checks. The order checks performed by MOCHA Server include:
Enhanced Drug-Drug Interactions Order Check – provides the clinician with more information by displaying a short description of the clinical effects of the drug interaction and providing an optional view of a detailed professional drug interaction monograph. It checks interactions between two or more drugs, including interaction monographs.
Enhanced Duplicate Therapy Order Check – uses FDB’s Enhanced Therapeutic Classification (ETC) System, which allows checking for duplicated drug classifications between two or more drugs.
Drug Dose Order Check – is the prescribed dose for an ordered drug within the proper dosing parameters based on the patient’s age, weight, and body surface area. This includes both maximum single dose checking and maximum daily dose checking. General dosing information for a drug will be provided when the other dosing checks cannot be performed.
