The purpose of the ICD-10 Conversion of Class 1 Clinical Remaining Products Project is to remediate and validate International Classification of Diseases (ICD) processing in the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) suite of applications. Effective 10/1/2014, VistA code must be able to process medical transactions dated prior to 10/1/2014 using ICD version 9, and those dated on or after 10/1/2014 using the more robust ICD version 10. Twenty applications are included in scope and represent one-third of the scope of the full ICD-10 Program. Specifically, changes to the applications will enable VHA to successfully:

• Utilize in all modes of operation Diagnostic and Procedure codes using the Tenth revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) for outpatient encounters and inpatient discharges on or after 10-01-2014.

• Utilize in all modes of operation Diagnostic and Procedure codes using the Ninth revision of ICD for outpatient encounters and inpatient discharges prior to 10-01-2014.
